Wow!  With wedding season winding down I have time to sit and reflect about some of the wonderful events we have had and people we have met.  I consider myself blessed to be able to help create so many families’ special days.

Learning Garden with lightsMy brides’ trends this year seemed to be pulling from two distinct areas.  The first seems to be heavily influenced by The Great Gatsby movie scenes.  Soft romantic lighting with colored up lights with dreamy candles adorned the tables.   Cascading arrangements of off white and blush fresh flowers for bouquets, centerpieces and decorations and lamps gave a strong romantic “Gatsby-like” appeal at several of this year’s receptions.  This past summer also continued a version of last year’s trend “shabby chic”.  Several brides have commented they found inspiration from the website Pinterest combining rustic country with a modern “glam” approach.  Clean yet beautiful sunflower and daisy arrangements appeared as centerpieces in mason jars accompanied by the soft glow of candles reflecting off of mirrors.   Burlap mixed with silky and shimmering ribbons were popular in many bouquets and centerpieces.  Long and flowing bolts of fabric as overhead and table decorations were popular with both trends.  I look forward to seeing what the many brides who have booked with us for next summer come up with and helping with the design of their dream day too!

Speaking of next year, the reservations for wedding, receptions, graduation and anniversary parties are off the charts!  I am completely amazed at how quickly dates are filling up and worried for the brides calling in with their hearts set on The Dawes wedding experience and being able to schedule them a date for the ceremony.  The Events Terrace reception space on the hillside is increasingly popular as the view of the sunset is quite breathtaking.  This area is almost sold out for May and June.  I am sad to say the Japanese Garden ceremony site will only be available for the month of June as it will be closed for some much needed restoration after that time.  However, the Dawes Lake Island, All Seasons Garden, Red Barn dock and Memorial area will be in top notch shape to kick off the 2014 wedding and event season.   I am super excited that the garden just to the west corner of the Daweswood House is being renovated as a new ceremony space with manicured flowerbeds on either side of where the guests will sit overlooking the pond; quite a remarkable view that can accommodate 100 guests.   Facility Blog (1)This new area can be paired with an appetizer/dessert mini reception at the Learning Garden terrace; a great addition to our facility rental areas. If you are planning an event of any nature I would love the opportunity to give you a tour of The Arboretum’s rental areas and be a part of your special occasion!
