Important Arboretum Admission Changes Slated for Spring 2019
A Message from our Executive Director Luke Messinger
Over the last few years, you have probably seen a number of modifications and improvements on The Dawes Arboretum grounds as we strive to accommodate an ever-growing number of visitors. While there have been a number of enhancements, our commitment to our visitors has remained the same—deliver a safe place to enjoy and explore nature and to deliver high-quality programs about our natural world for children and lifelong learners.
In order to fully grow and sustain these priorities, we are making another change. Beginning in spring of 2019, visitors to the main grounds of The Arboretum will begin paying a $10 entrance fee for adults and a $5 entrance fee for children age five and older. Children younger than five will be admitted free. The fees are consistent with other arboretums our size across the country and are also in line with fees to local cultural destinations.
As a benefit of membership, all Arboretum members will enjoy free admission. These fees will help support new features that include new and improved trails and gardens, improved care of the grounds and a natural play area for children. Specifically, the fees will allow us to have an even greater impact on our visitors and the community.
We will continue to offer free access to all visitors to the Red Barn Reserve and Dutch Fork Wetlands. We will also offer a variety of free and discount days for the local community throughout the year including our new Arboretum Founders Day Celebration in June.
As we prepare for this change, we are making some improvements to our main entrance that will require closures and traffic pattern changes during construction. We anticipate the first phase of the construction to be complete by early November, subject to weather. The grounds will be accessible from Davis Drive, and please check our website for entrance improvement updates before visiting The Arboretum.
We are excited about the opportunities we will be able to offer our visitors as we go forward. Look for more information about these changes on our website and social media in the coming months.
We are hosting open house meetings on October 11 at 6pm and November 3 at 10am to further discuss this change. Please contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org or 740.323.2355 if you would like to discuss these changes with me.
