The Dawes Arboretum is partaking in The Works: Ohio Center for History, Art & Technology’s 2023 Gingerbread Contest! The contest also includes gingerbread houses from other organizations such as Intel, Cosi: Center of Science and Industry, Park National Bank, Licking Memorial Health Systems and Explore Licking County! All of which, have kept in mind the theme of "Home for the Holidays". This is an in-person only voting event that is open to the public from now until next Friday, December 8th. Admission into The Works is required to participate in voting.

A few departments from The Arboretum put their creative minds together to create a gingerbread replica of The Daweswood House located here on our grounds. The Daweswood House Museum was originally the home of the John Brumback family. John, a pioneer blacksmith and farmer, designed and financed the construction of the brick farmhouse in 1867. Around 1917, the Dawes family moved onto the Brumback farm, known at the time as Woodland, including the 50-year-old brick farmhouse that became their country home.
