Dawes Lake was always a part of our founder, Beman Dawes’, vision. While he was unable to see the completion of the project, we know he would be proud of the outcome. Dawes Lake was introduced by Beman himself in 1929 in a newspaper article and it was to be located by the hedge letters. With this in mind, Beman Dawes Jr. spearheaded the project and completed the Lake in 1956. He had assistance with the construction from a grading contractor, C.M. Luburgh. Luburgh was to carry out the engineering requirements that were drawn up by the United States Department of Agricultural Soil Conservation Service in Coshocton.

Once the Lake was open to the public, it soon became a perk to those with a membership. In 1973, fishing at the lake was the first perk added for membership obtainers. This decision was likely put into place to honor the founder’s love of fishing.

In 1988, vegetation- eating carp were added to the lake as a biological tool to control nuisance plants from over growing in that area. This spot has become a favorite for visitors for its beauty and wildlife. If you are a membership holder today, you can enjoy catch & release fishing at Dawes Lake- the perfect spring or summer activity!
