Have a teen that wants hands-on with conservation? The Teen Conservation Team is designed to immerse teens in hands-on learning experiences with our dedicated team in conservation, preservation, environmental education, gardening and research! In addition, teens will have the opportunity to gain service credit while making a difference in our natural world. Read below to learn more!
What dates will the Teen Conservation Team meet?
The Teen Conservation Team will meet on the following dates:
Orientation on May 20 or May 24 (members will select the date they wish to attend)

June 7
June 14
June 21
June 28
July 12
July 19
July 26
August 2
What's an example of a daily schedule?
9-11am: Learning with Science and Conservation Team about collection, invasive removals and reforestation
12-1pm: Lunch
1-4pm: Working with the Landscape Operations Team, learning to design landscapes and maintain gardens
Every week will look different, with new and exciting opportunities!
Arboretum staff will be in attendance during all activities.
Who is oversees the Teen Conservation Team?
Our Volunteer and Outreach Coordinator, Luke McClellan, will coordinate and oversee the Teen Conservation Team.
What is the application process?
The application period has closed for 2023, however if you are interested on a hands-on experience at The Dawes Arboretum, please join us for a Community Volunteer Day or contact volunteers@dawesarb.org.
Are there additional opportunities available?
Yes, families are welcome to get hands-on and join their teens during our Community Volunteer Days on June 11, July 9 and August 13 from 9am-12pm.
