Have you ever been to our Dutch Fork Stream? It is located next to the Dutch Fork Wetlands and plays a vital part in the ecosystem. The Dawes Arboretum has participated in River Round Up and Stream Clean Ups of the Dutch Fork Stream since 2015 in an effort to restore this once historic dump site. This project focuses on cleaning our waterways of trash and ensuring a healthy ecosystem for the future.

We annually remove and weigh all of the trash that is collected from this area. We remove about 4,000 pounds of trash each year with a grand total of 32,000 pounds from the waterway. In addition, we have also planted over 200 native plants to restore the stream bank and removed invasive vegetation.

We’re pleased to announce that this year, our staff and 45 volunteers collected a record 5,500 pounds of trash from the stream!
