Each Wednesday for the month of May, join an Arboretum educator on a walk through the forest to discover what mushrooms are popping. Mushrooms grow quickly, so come each week to see something new!
Ohio is home to over 2,000 species of mushroom. The Arboretum houses a wide range of different types of fungi. During these mushroom walks, participants can expect to learn about a variety of different species. They will include tricks for identification, information on the ecology of different types of mushrooms and more! For each walk, you are likely to see representatives from many different groups of mushrooms. Some mushrooms we typically see in May include jelly fungi, ink caps, orange mycena and occasionally morels along with many others.
This program is included with Arboretum admission and registration is not required. Please arrive by 5pm at The Main Shelter House on grounds to begin the walk. Also, please keep in mind there will be no collecting of mushrooms as part of this walk. The purpose is to observe the mushrooms in their natural environment. We are so excited for you to join us on the trails!
