For this year’s History Center exhibit, opening May 1, eight pieces of clothing representing Arboretum co-founders Beman and Bertie Dawes will be on display for the first time. The Arboretum’s historic collection includes many textiles once owned and worn by the couple. When visiting the History Center, you will see not only their clothing but also accessories and two-staged dressing areas. Our History department selected items for the exhibit that are in good condition and represent Beman and Bertie’s signature looks. They combed through the photographic archives to find coordinating photos that closely match the items on display.
The exhibit will be open Wednesdays through Saturdays from noon to 3pm through October 30. Visitors do not need to pre-register for the History Center exhibit. If you would like to learn more about the items on display, how I selected them and some behind-the-scenes stories, join our History Happy Hour on August 18. Visit dawesarb.org to learn more.
