What

In this new program, our youngest explorers get a taste of the day camp experience during an abbreviated session.  Popular children's literature becomes an avenue for exploring the natural world.  Read stories, make crafts and play games in this active and hands-on camp.  Please note, this half-day camp meets from 9am to noon, Wednesday, June 14 - Friday, June 16, only.

Family memberships are a great way to offset some of the costs associated with camp.  Click here to learn about Arboretum membership.  In 2017, a limited number of camp scholarships will be offered.  Contact us at education@dawesarb.org for more information on scholarships.

What

Learn with a group as creative educators bring families closer to the wonders of the natural world.  These programs, designed for children ages three to eight, keep the body moving and brain exercising as science is combined with games, crafts, stories and music.  Activities are held on Wednesdays (June through August 9).

Wednesday, June 14, 2017: Life in a Tree

Who might like to live in a tree?  Birds, squirrels, insects, lichens, you?  Try your hand at building a bird nest.

The program is free.  Registration is not required.

What

Are you interested in exploring the tiny world of moss, liverworts and hornworts?  If so, don’t miss this chance to learn more about Earth’s oldest plants!  We will explore bryophyte biology, morphology and identification using microscopes, including specimens we collect right here on The Arboretum’s property.

What

Take a guided tour of the Daweswood House Museum, once the country home of Arboretum co-founders Beman and Bertie Dawes.  See and hear the history behind antiques and memorabilia from the Dawes family.  A house highlight is the "Rathskeller," a basement area that displays shovels used by over 100 notable men and women who dedicated trees at The Arboretum and features their initials and signatures on the ceiling.

Tours available from 12pm to 1pm and 2pm to 3pm.

Adults: $2     Children: $1     Members: FREE

Purchase tickets in the Visitors Center.  Please call ahead to confirm tour times.

What

Families are invited to Camp Dawes for a special opportunity to enjoy some of our favorite camp activities. Tie dye, dig-in to the pond, go on a nature hike and enjoy a crackling campfire complete with s'mores. Children are not required to participate in other 2017 Camp Dawes sessions. $7 per participant / $5 per member (please see our registration/member pricing policy) / Children under 3 are free.
