Trees and plants are uniquely beautiful, but they are also important to life as we know it.  How can you plant and protect them?

What

Take a guided tour of the Daweswood House Museum, once the country home of Arboretum co-founders Beman and Bertie Dawes.  See and hear the history behind antiques and memorabilia from the Dawes family.  A house highlight is the "Rathskeller," a basement area that displays shovels used by over 100 notable men and women who dedicated trees at The Arboretum and features their initials and signatures on the ceiling.

Adults: $2     Children: $1     Members: FREE

Purchase tickets in the Visitors Center. Please call ahead to confirm tour times.

Discover what's growing at The Arboretum.  Visit different types of gardens and feel inspired to create your own.  Experiment with seeds and dig in to help a garden grow.

What

Celebrate the harvest season with a family event featuring hands-on apple cider making, guided wagon tours, storytelling, a plant sale, tours of the newly expanded Learning Garden and presentations featuring an animal ambassadors from Ironwood Wolves.  Presented by The Energy Cooperative with support from media sponsor Ohio Magazine and the Licking County Foundation.

What

Preschoolers (appropriate for children 3-5 years old) explore quality children's literature in a natural setting as only The Dawes Arboretum can provide.  Each 45-minute session may include songs, games, crafts, creative movement, outdoor exploration and hands-on science for children ages three to five and their special caregiver(s).

Join us for one or all five sessions in each seasonal series on the second and fourth Thursday, September - May, at 10am in the Visitor Center.

Free; donations appreciated. Registration is not required.

What

Celebrate Halloween with this family-friendly night hike.  We will travel around the grounds in search of Ohio's most notorious nocturnal animals, so come ready for excitement and fun.  Staff will assist the group in calling for owls, listening for bats and much more!  There will be moderate walking during this program, so be sure to wear good outdoor shoes and dress for the weather.

Create a beautiful wreath to decorate your entrance for the Thanksgiving season.  Let natural materials spark your creativity to create your own unique look.  All materials will be provided; please choose between a rustic or glittery look for your creation.

Some compounds which occur naturally in herbs can offer pain relief and calm inflammation.  Join Dr. Melinda Woofter, M.D., FASMS, as she shares a thought-provoking lecture on the use of these plants to treat skin conditions and other ailments.

Enjoy a guided hike over the hills, through the trees and around the water.  As the light of the day fades, notice how other senses are sharpened.  All participants will receive a patch.
